Andrew Gordon appeared on PBS NewsHour on Oct. 8 in a segment on AI-generated video tools, arguing that "in a studio, there are gatekeepers, and you pitch a project and they say yay or nay. But now if you have this so-called power of full technology, you have got a whole studio and you're able to do your stories."

The segment, AI startup touts new possibilities for video creators, but concerns remain, featured Gordon as chief storyteller at EyeTell, a platform founded by YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley. EyeTell integrates AI video production tools to make them accessible to nonprofessionals, enabling users to create content that previously required major studio resources. The segment showed how a screenwriter produced a period drama episode in a week using the platform, with no actors, sets or traditional production crew.

Gordon drew parallels to earlier technological shifts in filmmaking, from computer graphics in Jurassic Park to the transition from 2-D to 3-D animation with Pixar's Toy Story. "People thought 3-D looks terrible. They thought it wasn't artistic enough," he said. "And then obviously Pixar and some of these other companies, they made stories that were really moving, and they pushed the technology. And I think that that's really what is sort of happening now."

Gordon is an animator, producer and director who spent 20 years at Pixar Animation Studios, where he was the lead animator for Mike Wazowski of Monsters, Inc. and worked on films including A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. His work on Finding Nemo won the Visual Effects Society Award in 2004. After Pixar, he served as head of animation at DNEG and contributed as a co-director on Minions: The Rise of Gru.
