Carlos Gutiérrez appeared at the National Press Club on Oct. 8 and was interviewed on CNN-News18 on Oct. 13, discussing immigration, trade policy and U.S.-India relations as part of the book tour for Sheer Will: Learning to Lead When There Is No Path.

At the National Press Club, Gutiérrez described himself as a traditional Republican and addressed President Trump's use of power within the party. "We have to recognize that in terms of the use of power, President Trump is a master," he said. "He understands it, and he will use it." The National Press Club published a write-up of the event the same day.

On CNN-News18, Gutiérrez argued that immigration is central to U.S. competitiveness. "The model of the United States of America is immigration," he said. "That's always been what has made the country successful, what has given the country energy and just this constant search for new ideas and change." He warned that reducing immigration would have "a very unique and very hard impact on the economy," noting that the U.S. does not have enough workers to sustain growth. The full interview aired Oct. 13.

On U.S.-India trade negotiations, Gutiérrez said the current talks extend beyond tariffs and trade deficits to India's strategic independence. "What is being pressured is India's strategic position in the world," he said. "India has always been independent, strategic sovereignty, strategic independence. India gets along with everyone because that is in the interest of India." He suggested that because individual U.S. agencies do not link these broader issues, negotiations "will be solved at president-prime minister level."

The coverage extends Gutiérrez's reach beyond U.S. business television to the Washington press corps and a major Indian broadcaster, expanding his bookable range to include trade, immigration and U.S.-India relations.
