Angela Stent appeared on NPR’s Here & Now on Oct. 19 in the segment Trump signs executive order waiving Russia sanctions, and on CNN International the same day to analyze the order and the diesel deal with Moscow. On Oct. 23, she discussed Russian strikes on Ukraine on BBC World News.

U.S. policy toward Russia shifted week by week in October, as President Trump reversed course on sanctions he had imposed just one month earlier. Across multiple networks, Stent explained what the policy changes and the diesel deal with Putin meant for multinationals with exposure to Russia, Ukraine or European energy markets as they worked to gauge where sanctions policy was headed next.

Her commentary also addressed the deteriorating relationship between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the warming ties between Trump and Putin. Her analysis draws on five decades of studying Russia, her government service as National Intelligence Officer and at the State Department, and years of meetings with senior Russian officials through the Valdai International Discussion Club.
